Tegus' Spell of Self Healing

Class and level Magic-User 2
Duration Instantaneous
Range Self

This spell, originally created by the legendary necromancer Tegus, takes a full turn to cast and may only be performed on one's self and not cast upon others. After the spell is cast, the caster is healed for 2d8 + (caster's level) HP.

This ritual is considered somewhat dangerous due to the necromantic forces involved; the caster must save versus death when casting this spell or roll on the following chart for effects:

2d6 Result
2 Possessed: the caster is possessed by a spirit or other entity determined by the DM for 3d10 hours, takes a permanent loss of d3-1 points to CON
3-4 Magnet for the dead: the caster is awash in the residual power of necromancy, and the undead are drawn to it. For 3d6 days the undead will be drawn to you like wolves to a wounded deer.
5-6 Physically drained: you do not heal and are exhausted and unable perform strenuous physical tasks (more than walking at half speed) until you get d4+1 days of complete bed rest.
7 Barely touched by the hand of Chaos: the amount you are healed drops by 50%, but no other effects.
8-9 Tainted: the caster is transformed by Chaos; randomly change one attribute (d6: 1-2 = raise a point, 3-6 = lose a point). The character also acquires a minor mutation or taint to explain the change (DM choice).
10-11 Cursed: the caster is afflicted with a random curse. Roll on d1000 curse chart.
12 Inflicted with insanity: the caster is driven insane for 3d10 hours, takes a permanent loss of d3-1 points to WIS
